There is this idea of deep ecology, which Arne Naess discusses. Deep ecology looks for the roots of ecological crisis in deeply held human attitudes towards nature. It is a biocentric view that sees "consumerism" as a source of our alienation from nature. Which I agree with. I think people are so caught up in having materialistic things that they don't encounter nature anymore. Anymore, it seems like people look down on you, like you're not mature if you play outside. Since when do you have to be a toddler or kid to play outside. In my opinion, it helps you understand nature better and appreciate it more. I guess I have this view. i love being outside and me being an enviromental science major, I care about how I affect nature and I try not to do harmful things to it. deep ecology takes a subjective approach where important thing is getting at one self and changing our attitudes towards nature.
Shallow ecology, on the other hand, is not focused on nature. It focuses on finding technocratic solutions to environmental problems. It tries to fix problems cosmeticly, trying to fix surface of the problem not the whole problem. it supports economic growth ideologies. It asks what can we physically do to change nature. This view has a very negative impact on the environmental and sadly this is the view most people have.
